Important Notice: Proposed Changes to Japanese Residence Application Fees

Important: This is a proposal and has not yet taken effect.

Japan’s Immigration Services Agency has announced a proposal to revise the fees for residence status procedures.

Please note that these changes have NOT taken effect yet.

The proposal is currently under public consultation, and the government aims to implement the new fees around October 2026.

Proposed changes

• Change of Status of Residence / Extension of Period of Stay: current fee ¥6,000; proposed fee ¥10,000 to ¥75,000, depending on the period of stay
• Permanent Residence Application: current fee ¥10,000; proposed fee ¥200,000

These amounts are still proposals and may change before the final implementation.
